The #1 rated alternative to MuleSoft.

Higher rated by G2 and Gartner. Faster to deploy. Built natively for the agentic era, with governed AI across your whole stack instead of just one ecosystem.

How Workato wins.
Workato competes directly with MuleSoft, but we stand apart from the rest of the industry in these key areas.
01
A native AI control plane, not an API gateway retrofitted for agents.
MULESOFT · AGENT FABRIC
Connects AI agents into the Salesforce/Agentforce ecosystem. Real strength if your agent strategy is Salesforce-centric, but Agent Fabric's depth outside Salesforce is limited.
Workato· ENTERPRISE MCP
Orchestrated Context, Trust & Security, and Enterprise Skills give agents governed, auditable actions across 1,200+ connectors, built for multi-cloud, multi-vendor agent architecture from the start, not retrofitted onto one ecosystem.
02
Business teams build, IT stays in control. MuleSoft requires a developer bench.
Every Anypoint build is a developer-hours item, gated behind certified engineers. Workato recipes are built in a visual builder by IT and business teams together, inside IT-defined guardrails, so the numbers below flip in Workato's favor across the board.

Frequently asked questions.
Straight answers, sourced from our own docs.
Is MuleSoft still a Gartner Magic Quadrant Leader?{{ faqMQIcon }}
Yes, as of the 2026 report. But they dropped out of the Leaders quadrant entirely in 2025 and only returned this year. Workato has been a Leader for 8 consecutive years and named furthest in Completeness of Vision three years running (independent confirmation).
How long does migrating off MuleSoft actually take?{{ faq0Icon }}
For an estate of 20 to 50 active MuleSoft integrations, a phased migration typically runs three to six months: new integrations go live on Workato first while MuleSoft keeps existing workflows running, then live integrations cut over in order of business impact.
Do we lose any existing integrations during the switch?{{ faq1Icon }}
No. AMP maps your existing flows instead of rebuilding from scratch, and MuleSoft keeps running in parallel during the migration, so there's no forced downtime during cutover. What carries over directly is your integration logic (what data moves where, under what rules); that knowledge lives with your team, not the platform. What gets rebuilt is the custom-coded transformation layer, which becomes visual recipe steps instead.
Is Workato's MCP support production-ready today?{{ faq2Icon }}
Yes. Enterprise MCP is running 63 production MCP servers today and growing daily, native to the same governed runtime as every Workato recipe since inception, not an experimental add-on bolted on after the fact.
Does Workato support on-premises systems and global deployment?{{ faq3Icon }}
Yes to both. Workato's platform runs in our cloud, and we extend that to your on-prem systems through our On-Prem Agent (OPA): it sits inside your data center and opens a secure outbound connection to Workato, so on-prem databases, file systems, and legacy apps like SAP participate in your automations without opening inbound firewall ports. For global and data-residency needs, Workato operates a global data center footprint, including in-region processing for data-residency-sensitive workloads, plus Virtual Private Workato for dedicated, isolated deployments where required.
Does Workato have compliance certifications?{{ faq5Icon }}
Yes: SOC 1 & 2, ISO 27001 & 27701, HIPAA, PCI, and GDPR, plus end-to-end encryption, RBAC, and audit trails built in.
Can Workato handle high-volume or high-frequency workloads?{{ faqVolIcon }}
Yes. Workato runs in production today at large-enterprise transaction volumes across financial services, healthcare, and e-commerce. No vendor in this space, us included, has published a real benchmark for this claim, so if throughput is a genuine concern, ask any vendor for the actual benchmark and workload type behind it before taking the claim at face value.
Does Workato support EDI?{{ faq6Icon }}
EDI is handled through certified third-party services today, not a native module. For most enterprises this is a minor consideration: the bulk of your integration footprint is typically SAP, Salesforce, Workday, and ServiceNow, not X12/EDIFACT traffic. Worth raising early in your evaluation if EDI is a large share of your workload.
Is Workato on the FedRAMP Marketplace?{{ faq7Icon }}
Not yet, that's accurate today, and it's on our roadmap. Federal buyers should ask us directly about timeline and the interim controls we already have in place, since much of our existing certification portfolio (SOC 2, ISO 27001, NIST 800-171A r2) overlaps with FedRAMP requirements.
Is Workato's pricing transparent?{{ faq8Icon }}
Yes. Workato uses transparent, usage-based pricing with no premium connector fees or hidden add-ons. MuleSoft's consumption-based and vCore models can escalate with usage spikes and add-on licensing: the license price is only the starting point, not the total cost.
